Entity Inception Date 2008 April
08 Black Owl
My wife and business partner Cigdem has a fondness for owls, this sculpture is for her.
The pebble for this piece which stands at 350mm high was already in the shape of an owl, I therefore avoided cutting away too much of the original outside of the pebble concentrating only on the head for detail. Mostly stylized, the form is one of flowing curves and intersecting curved ridges. Each line from the beak around the eyes and back to the mouth are all continuous. Even the ridge around the eye fades to nothing towards the point of the beak. Most of the back and the lower sides are the original pebble as found. Black marble with gold colored streaks.
