24 Élise et Édouard
I have no conscious recollection of planning this piece.
Élise just appeared, pregnant.
She was carved from a travertine marble pebble which is not the easiest marble to work with because of the existence of many air pockets, but the finished appearance is pleasingly 'stone-like'.
Because most travertine's are fissured, when used commercially for floors and the like, the fissures are filled before polishing. I mentioned this to a friend who said the stone-like appearance of Elise should be left unpolished and I am inclined to agree. So for the moment Élise has a complexion resembling porridge oats, which is not a slur on this beauty.
